The RoleThe Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer will work closely with engineering, operations, controls, contractors, commissioning teams, and customers to successfully design and deploy large-scale chilled-water and thermal energy systems.
Key Responsibilities
-
Lead mechanical design and integration of thermal energy storage and chilled-water systems.
-
Develop and review P&IDs, hydronic piping layouts, equipment arrangements, valve schedules, and controls-integration interfaces.
-
Perform hydraulic calculations and pipe-stress analysis supporting system design and code-compliant documentation.
-
Integrate systems with chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, pumps, and BAS/BMS platforms.
-
Coordinate with data center operators, MEP engineering firms, mechanical contractors, controls integrators, design engineers, and commissioning teams.
-
Support site surveys, startup, commissioning, functional testing, and troubleshooting activities.
-
Provide technical engineering input for proposals, RFP responses, presales activities, and mechanical system narratives.
-
Develop and utilize engineering automation tools using Python, Excel/VBA, or similar technologies.
-
Collaborate with product-development and engineering teams to improve system designs and deployment methods.
-
Mentor junior engineers as the engineering organization expands.
-
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
-
5+ years of experience involving HVAC, chilled-water systems, cooling plants, or energy infrastructure.
-
Strong knowledge of hydronic systems, thermodynamics, central cooling plants, and BAS/BMS integration.
-
Experience coordinating mechanical systems with electrical and controls disciplines.
-
Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Plant 3D, or similar engineering/design software.
-
Familiarity with commissioning, startup, and field-execution processes.
-
Willingness to travel approximately 20% domestically.
